Our brotherhood is what makes us more than just a group of guys living on the same dorm room floor who play IM football once a week. Our brotherhood lasts for life, and it’s obvious to our pledges right after they join.

From the moment you join Phi Delt you’re surrounded by a group of good guys that is there for you — and looking out for you. There’s a group of older brothers who has already taken the classes you’re taking and ready to help you out, tell you who the best professors are and even just help you adjust to your new life at UCF.

Our brothers look after each other while in college — like by inviting out of state brothers back home for Thanksgiving dinner.  But one of the biggest benefits comes after college when brothers help new grads find work through our large alumni network.

In every sport we have 2 teams, like JV and Varisty in high school.  Anyone who wants to play gets the chance. Pledges as well as brothers play on both teams.

My Last Game In High School

When I graduated and left Chicago to go to UCF, I went from knowing everyone to not knowing anyone on UCF’s 53,000 student campus. I also knew very little of “going Greek,” but I saw that many students were a part of UCF’s Greek life such as the orientation leaders, teacher assistants, and RA’s.

I decided to try it out and I have not looked back on my decision since.

Greek life has taken the size of the campus and made it smaller. I know at least 3 people everywhere on campus from going Greek. I can also keep on playing sports on Phi Delt’s teams, which just beat out all other UCF fraternities to win the Greek Cup Championship.

Another concern for me being out of state was the money issue of paying fraternity dues. I found out Phi Delta Theta is actually one of the most affordable fraternities at UCF. Not only are the dues cheap, but we also have a new fully furnished house off campus that is bigger than many other fraternity houses on Greek row.  We save so much money by being off campus, we can fund the best socials with the top sororities of UCF.

Phi Delta Theta just makes sense. It is composed of a bunch of guys who were athletes, head of their class in academics, and gave back to their community during their high school years. Phi Delt still instills these qualities into its active brothers.

It is more than a friendship that you will get from Phi Delta Theta — it is a brotherhood for life. Rushing Phi Delta Theta helped in many ways in becoming more than just another student at UCF. I stand out with a prominent group of men and continue to help and get involved with my school.

Those were just two of the many socials we spent hanging out with UCF’s most popular sororities. This past fall, we also spent homecoming with the lovely ladies of Delta Delta Delta and had even more socials dedicated exclusively to our homecoming week, where we won best dance together.

Sororities only have a limited amount of “wet” socials (allowing alcohol) they’re allowed to go on with UCF fraternities each semester, so if the social aspect of a fraternity is important to you, joining Phi Delt will give you the most chances to go out with UCF’s most popular sororities, because the ladies continue to make us a top choice, based on our size and reputation for having a great time, when they are setting up their social calendars.

This Fall we’ll be at it again, and we’re already planning amazing socials with UCF’s top sororities. In September we’re booked with Zeta for two socials in one month. Phi Delt’s Spring Formal tradition continued in April 2010, and as usual, it was a great way to end another great year at UCF.

The event started at our new fraternity house, right across from UCF behind the new Sterling Apartments. We met up with our dates at the house, took pictures and then headed on the buses to Daytona Beach.

Once we got to the hotel, we checked in, grabbed our coolers and hit up the pool. The beach was right outside the gate, so our brothers and their dates had the choice to go layout along the Atlantic or else just layout by the pool.

Once the sun went down, we went back to our rooms and got dressed for the formal part of the weekend. After being served a full course dinner and desert, we celebrated the end of our semester by giving out awards to brothers who stood out in IM Sports, leadership both in Phi Delt and on campus in SGA and academics.

Because Phi Delt is one of just a few 100+ man chapters at UCF, and because we own our house and save by not paying higher rent, we have plenty of money to host weekend-long Spring formals in Daytona Beach like this one. It’s events like these, shared with your fraternity brothers and girlfriends, that make UCF more than just a bunch of buildings where you go to class — and instead turn it into an unforgettable experience you’ll carry with you the rest of your life.

We won the UCF Intramural GREEK SPORTS CUP after dominating every sport against every other fraternity. In order to win the IM sports cup, we placed first in the football, baseball, and basketball regular seasons. We won the softball championship, and went undefeated in the volleyball, soccer, and Basketball regular seasons.

In Spring 2010, Phi Delt just wrapped up another semester dominating sports at UCF, and once again we hold the #1 ranking in fraternity sports standings for the Greek Cup.

Our 7v7 and 4v4 football teams both won gold league, which is the highest level fraternity league. We also won gold league in basketball, ranking #1 in that sport as well.

Our fraternity house has a huge, private back yard with a great view of a lake out back. There’s plenty of space for barbecues, big events and tailgates before UCF home games. Plus, a UCF shuttle stops right in front of our house, so getting on campus for game day and class is actually easier for us than fighting for a parking spot.

After nearly 30 years at UCF, we actually made the choice to buy a house off campus, rather than renting one on the recently vacated houses on campus. Because of that choice, we’re saving hundreds of thousands of dollars each year we would have had to pay UCF in fees to apply to rent one of the empty houses on campus.

Once Phi Delt took the first step to buy a house off campus, other fraternities are now following in our footsteps rather than trying to get a place on campus. That’s because everyone saw our fraternity grow bigger and stronger than ever after we bought our house off campus. We saved so much money, we were able to pay for the best socials and parties with the hottest sororities on campus. Our dues stayed low and we got money for scholarships, so we kept recruiting the best guys at UCF. Our great IM sports teams improved even more — and we’ve been ranked #1 in Greek Sports for more than a year.

Plus, because we own the house and UCF doesn’t, we get to maintain our privacy and control, and don’t have to spend money to pay for an RA to live in one of our rooms.
